Hiking Information for Chalet Killarney

General Information

The Tourist Office sells topo and hiking maps and is a great resource for information on the region. The topo map of Les Diablerets is excellent.

La Para

Drive toward the Col du Pillon and take the Lac Retaud turn off and drive up to the Isenau. If possible drive past the restaurant at Lac Retaud to the restaurant at Isenau. If the road is open, continue until you get to an old stone barn on the hillside (you will see the pylons and cable for a lift which goes to the Florietaz). Otherwise walk from the restaurant. From there you will see yellow trail signs for Arpille and La Para. This is a spectacular hike. Time: allow about 3 hours round trip.

From the same farmhouse you can walk up the road to Col des Andérets and up the ski lift ridge to the left. More great views await you.

Col du Pillon-Pré Jordan-Les Diablerets (moderate to difficult)

Take the bus or drive to the Col du Pillon restaurant. Follow signs to Pré Jordan. The trail goes along the bottom of the "bowl", by waterfalls. Then follow trail signs which are painted on rocks - white/red/white stripes - to Pré Jordan.  You will discover an amazing old chalet réfuge for hikers with a beautiful view of the valley. Then return the way you came for a moderate hike, or continue on to Les Diablerets. This is also pretty, but has some steep descents. Then walk back to village through residential neighborhoods. Time: 2.5 - 3 hours for fast hikers. You can take postal bus back to pick up your car at the Col.

Col du Pillon-Les Diablerets (easy)

A really pretty walk to the village along the stream running from the Col. You need a second car; or, take the bus back to the restaurant. Time: 1.5 hours.

Hike to Chalet Vieux

Drive to Lac Retaud via Col du Pillon road. Park and follow signs to the Chalet Vieux (Old Chalet). Excellent hiking, high alpine flowers. You may also continue up to the lip of the Isenau.

Lac Chavonnes/La Perche (easy)

Drive to La Forclaz (turn off near Sèpey between Aigle and Diablerets) then to Lac Chavonnes and hike all around there.

Lake Sanetsch (easy)

Drive to Gsteig and follow the signs for the télécabine to Lake Sanetsch. This is a glacial lake high in the mountains. There is actually a small restaurant in the "réfuge" at the top. Lots of walking/hiking opportunities and views.

Hikes above the Chalet

There are many great hikes above the chalet. Drive up the road to the hamlet of Marnez and walk along the roads. Also make a small detour on that road to Le Creux, a farmhouse making delicious cheese daily. Very friendly owners. Great views.

Col de la Croix

Drive to the Col de la Croix (the road to Villars) and park. There are numerous hikes from there, including to Taveyanne.

Suisse chèrie chez toi le bonheur.
Belle patrie à toi tout mon cœur.

Je lève mes yeux vers les
montagnes d'où me viendra le secours.

Que l'éternel protège ce chalet
et tous ceux qui l'habitent.

Pas à pas on va loin.
Tout est bien qui finit bien.

~ Translation ~

Beloved Switzerland, you bring us happiness. Beautiful homeland,
to you all my heart.

I lift up mine eyes unto the peaks whence cometh my salvation.

May the Eternal protect this chalet
and all those who dwell here.

Step by step one travels far.
All's well that ends well.
